We began the two and a half week travel around America by flying to Las Vegas where we met my sister who had already hired a car for the journey. The first stop was to go out to the Grand Canyon via the Hoover Dam. Both are incredible places, one for natural beauty and the other for very clever engineering.
After two more days exploring Vegas, we drove 5 hours into Death Valley, after a couple of brief stops at some view points we made it to Panamint Springs where we stayed a night before setting off for Yosemite the following day.
The drive to Yosemite should have been a few hours, but due to bad weather it turned into an eleven-hour detour. The long drive turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we saw some of the most beautiful scenery along the way. We also witnessed some incredible landscape changes within a small distance. The landscape started as a desert, before moving into a mountainous region, followed by snow covered roads, rocky terrain, the burned remains of the West of Yosemite park and finally the lush green valley in Yosemite where we stayed for two nights.
